Why live in Pulborough?

“Pulborough is a village that thinks it’s a town, with plenty of recreational facilities, an abundance of shops, restaurants and country pubs and so much to do in the local area, from cycling along the banks of the River Arun to paragliding over the beautiful South Downs.

The village centre has all the amenities you could need within walking distance of each other, including a choice of independent shops and branches of Tesco and Sainsbury’s, cafés and tea rooms, doctors and dentists and an excellent library. On the fourth Saturday of each month a village market is held in the modern Village Hall, just south of the village centre, where you can pick up locally produced food, fresh produce, gifts, crafts and plants while enjoying the lovely views over the water meadows.

There’s a great choice of state and independent schools in and around Pulborough, including three local primary schools (St Mary’s C of E, St James C of E and Fittleworth C of E) and Windlesham House School, one of the country’s leading preparatory schools.
If you’re looking for something different to do, you’ll find it here. The South Downs are there to be explored on foot, bike or horseback. You can commune with nature and watch birds in their natural habitat in the Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve. Take a ride on the South Downs Light Railway (which stops at the Wyevale Garden Centre in the west of the village) any time of the year. Enjoy a tour and tasting session at the local Stopham Vineyard, which produces white wine from hand-harvested grapes. Or head down to the Bignor Roman Villa to view the beautiful mosaic floors in what remains of a real Roman home. And if you would like to experience something truly extraordinary, Pulborough is also home to the annual 12 hour lawnmower race, an event that was conceived in 1973 over a few pints in a West Sussex pub (which comes as no surprise) and has grown into a professionally-organised competitive sport that is played around the world.

As all this will confirm, if you would like to live in an active and up-beat village with a strong sense of community Pulborough really is the place to be – and the team at Henry Adams will be happy to help you find your perfect home here.”
