Chichester Cathedral appoints Henry Adams to manage property portfolio

Following a review of how their properties are managed, Chichester Cathedral and St Mary’s Hospital almshouses have appointed Henry Adams Lettings to enhance the services provided to their tenants.

The appointment comes at the end of a detailed tendering process carried out by the Cathedral Chapter to select a professional managing agent for their portfolio of residential properties, a service which was previously done in-house.

In addition to the Cathedral itself, the Chapter is the custodian of a number of properties within the Chichester Cathedral Close, many of them Grade I and Grade II listed buildings of historic importance.

Most of the properties are let on a long term basis under normal tenancy conditions and Henry Adams Lettings will be handling the ongoing management in order to raise the level of service to both tenants and landlord in an ever-changing lettings environment.

David Coulthard, the Cathedral’s Executive Director, said, “Our properties support the Cathedral, a living church with over 900 years of history, and we’re delighted to be working with Henry Adams to manage them. They offer the specialist capabilities that we need to make sure that both the properties and our tenant relationships are managed really well. ”

Ian Wiggett, Chief Executive of Henry Adams, added, “We’re honoured to have been appointed to manage the portfolio of homes on behalf of the Cathedral Chapter. Having previously worked with them on a consultancy basis for nearly 20 years, during which time we’ve assisted with finding tenants for many of these properties, it’s a privilege to be entrusted to manage some of Chichester’s finest homes.

“Our Chichester Lettings Directors, Lily White and Nick van Klaveren, have worked exceptionally hard to ensure a smooth handover. As part of the new arrangements, Nicola Smith, the Cathedral’s experienced property manager, has joined the team at Henry Adams Lettings. Nicola will be a familiar contact for tenants of the Cathedral’s properties and able to provide seamless continuity of service for them.

Ian continued, “As any landlord or tenant can tell you, lettings is an increasingly complex environment, especially in terms of new legislation being introduced. As specialists, we’re able to advise the Chapter, as well as our individual landlords and tenants, on any updates to their rights and responsibilities. We look forward to the continuation of our successful partnership.”
