Apprenticeships in Planning

To mark this year’s National Apprenticeship Week (6 - 12 February), Henry Adams Planning team reflects on the apprentices joining them over the years, and who continue to make a significant contribution to the company’s success as one of the leading property consultancies in the South East.

Zac Denton joined Henry Adams Planning in April 2021 as an apprentice town planner. At the time, Zac had already gained four years’ experience in the planning department of Arun District Council. He is continuing his studies at London South Bank University to become a Chartered Town Planner.

“I wanted to join Henry Adams because the planning section was growing and has some fantastic projects underway,” said Zac. “The work is incredibly varied so I get a broad experience while still studying. I’ve learnt an incredible amount in the last two years. I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship for hands-on, practical experience while gaining qualifications. For me, it’s been a perfect balance.”

Land Manager, Chris Locke joined Henry Adams in 2016 on a two-year apprenticeship in town planning. He graduated in 2018 from Chichester College and is now an integral member of the Henry Adams Development Land team.

Peter Cleveland, Chartered Town Planner and head of planning at Henry Adams, said, “The value of investing in apprentices is clear. Both Chris and Zac are hard-working members of the team. They’ve both grown in ability, skills and knowledge over the years. I'm proud to see the progress of people committed to their careers while providing valuable solutions for clients. And they’re now contributing to the success and growth of Henry Adams in their chosen specialist fields.”

National Apprenticeship Week highlights the variety of opportunities available. Over 600 apprenticeships on offer can lead to a wide range of careers. Many of these are in the multi-billion pound construction industry, from bricklaying to civil engineering - and, of course, Town Planning.
