Henry Adams schools’ competition results in books bonanza!

More than 850 entries were received by Henry Adams estate agency in their competition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of World Book Day this March.

Primary schools in West Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey were invited to take part in the event and children were asked to design an eye-catching flag to celebrate their favourite book character or author.

Children from more than 23 schools took part and the overall winner was Kyle Holly from Emsworth Primary School, who designed a flag featuring the front covers of all six Harry Potter books. Kyle has won £500 worth of books for his school.

Henry Adams also awarded 148 books with prizes going to the winning flag in every year group at each school taking part in the competition.

Kate Fripp, headteacher at Emsworth Primary School, said, “'Henry Adams has developed an excellent relationship with the school through competitions for pupils and their support for many of our events. Pupils look forward to seeing the staff and benefit from the sense of community that has developed. The World Book Day themed competition was very popular and attracted many entries - we are proud of all our winners and especially Kyle Holly for his victorious entry! A big thank you from Emsworth Primary!'

Gareth Overton, head of residential sales at Henry Adams, added, “We were amazed by the high standard of all the entries and congratulate Kyle and all our winners across the region. All our high street branches were keen to support the amazing schools which form the backdrop of our communities. With World Book Day celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, it seemed the perfect time to partner with lots of local schools and to enlist the help of Wob to find just the right books to inspire and entertain our winners.”

Wob, previously World of Books, is based in Goring-by-Sea in West Sussex. Since 2002, the company has grown from a start-up to becoming a leading global seller of used books online to millions of customers in over 190 countries worldwide. The business is a pioneer in the reuse and recycling of unwanted books which are resold, donated to worthy causes in the UK or the developing world, or recycled into other useful products.

Graham Bell, CEO of Wob.com, said, “Wob is looking to donate one million books a year by 2025 to worthy causes so when we heard about Henry Adams’s initiative with local schools, we were very happy to get involved.

“One of our aims is to encourage people to re-use books as much as possible, so we selected some great books that we know that lots of children enjoy reading for the winners of the Henry Adams design competition. Well done to Gareth and the team at Henry Adams as well as all the worthy winners - we hope you enjoy your books!”
