Focus on... Chichester

The beautiful cathedral city of Chichester is a modern-day shopper’s paradise with big name stores and independent boutiques. It’s also home to some of the oldest churches and buildings in Great Britain.

You’ll find a great selection of places to eat and drink here, from elegant restaurants to cosy cafés and pubs, with the majority located along the city’s four main streets (North Street, South Street, East Street and West Street). Take a guided walk from the Novium Museum or just explore…

Chichester Cathedral on West Street dominates the skyline and on summer afternoons the cathedral grounds are often dotted with local people enjoying a picnic. In the evenings, the Cathedral plays a central part in the city’s nightlife by hosting classical music events. For year round entertainment, Chichester Festival Theatre is the place to be with award winning productions to impress the most demanding critics.

There’s a great range of local schools, colleges, and the University of Chichester. With plenty of activities locally, from art galleries and many leafy parks, including Priory Park in the heart of the city, to the swimming pool or skate park at Westgate Leisure Centre.

Goodwood is within easy reach as is the South Downs National Park, or head to Chichester Gate Cineworld for the latest blockbuster where you’ll be spoilt for choice.

And if water sports are your thing, Chichester Harbour is a sailor’s haven and home to several sailing clubs including Itchenor, Bosham and Dell Quay.

Chichester is also well connected. Rail journeys take approx 1hr 33 minutes directly into London Victoria or half an hour into Portsmouth.

Architectural styles of Chichester include elegant city centre Georgian townhouses along with contemporary new apartments, or choose one of the pretty neighbouring villages, each with its own character, or perhaps a waterside homes where you can watch the sailing.

You could always drop in to The Boat House Café at Chichester & Swanwick Marina for relaxed waterside dining. Enjoy!
