Why live in Pulborough?

Pulborough is a village that thinks it’s a town with its abundance of recreational facilities, shops, restaurants and country pubs and so much to do in the local area, from cycling along the banks of the River Arun to paragliding over the beautiful South Downs.

It sits on the northern edge of the South Downs National Park and features homes of all sizes, styles and ages, from stone cottages and barn conversions to country houses set in acres of land and modern town houses within walking distance of the train station. The village centre has everything you need within easy walking distance, including shops, cafés and tearooms, doctors, dentists and an excellent library. On the fourth Saturday of every month a market is held in the village hall where you can pick up locally produced food, gifts, crafts and plants while enjoying the lovely views over the water meadows.

There’s a great choice of state and independent schools in and around Pulborough, including three local primary schools, St Mary’s C of E, St James C of E and Fittleworth C of E, and Windlesham House School, one of the country’s leading preparatory schools.

If you’re looking for something different to do, you’ll certainly find it here; the South Downs can be explored on foot, bike or horseback and you can commune with nature and watch birds in their natural habitat in the Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve. Take a ride on the South Downs Light Railway any time of year and enjoy a tour and tasting session at the local Stopham Vineyard, which produces white wine from hand-harvested grapes. If you’d like to experience something truly extraordinary, you’ll discover that Pulborough is also home to the annual 12-hour lawnmower race, an event conceived in 1973 over a few pints in a West Sussex pub and which has grown into a professionally organised sport that’s played around the world.

If you’d like to buy, sell or let a property in Pulborough, get in touch with your local team and discover the Henry Adams difference for yourself.
