Having been built circa 1800 - 1830 as a Calvinist Meeting House and adjoining minister's house, it is thought that the Meeting Room was converted into additional living accommodation around 1930 when the Calvinist's moved elsewhere, and is fortunate to have retained many of the original period features. During the 1940's the house was lived in by the Anglo-French artist Paul Maze, known as the last of the Post Impressionists", and who is accredited with having taught Winston Churchill to paint.
