Many people move to Emsworth to enjoy the best of town, country and coastal life. It was once a fishing village that was known for boatbuilding, rope making and oyster farming. Many of these traditions are long gone, but Emsworth has retained much of its old-fashioned charm.

The many artists who live and work here throw open their studio doors to show their work at the annual Emsworth Art Trail while the Emsworth Horticultural Society holds an annual fair over the August Bank Holiday, which includes demonstrations of ancient crafts such as glass blowing, wood turning, falconry and beekeeping.

Emsworth has a great selection of good schools, including St. James Primary School, Emsworth Primary School, Warblington Secondary School and Bourne Community College. The town also has many independent shops, a butcher, fishmonger, florist, delicatessen and supermarkets and it’s no surprise that, in a recent survey, Emsworth received the highest shopper approval rating of all shopping centres in the borough. We’re also spoilt by the number of popular pubs, bars and restaurants here, such as 36 On The Quay, where you can enjoy fine dining with a waterside view, and Fat Olives that occupies a former fisherman’s cottage.

Of course, one of our major attractions is the water – it’s a paradise for sailors, with beautiful waterside properties lining the harbour and a choice of local sailing clubs. Hayling Island is equally popular, with its reputation as the spiritual home of windsurfing and miles of glorious seafront that overlook the Isle of Wight, the Solent and Selsey Bill.
