Painstaking research creates a tranquil show home

27th July 2012

Behind a beautiful Chichester show home which instills warmth and serenity, many hours have been spent ensuring that every cushion, every picture, every object, is perfect.

At Litten Place, an elegant scheme of just four townhouses and two bungalows in the heart of Chichester, Jane Barker of Seaward Properties was tasked with creating a home which reflected the discerning style of Seaward’s customers.

“We get to know the individual people who buy our homes and they generally prefer something classic, calm and stylish with a high quality, uncluttered feel,” said Jane.

“You need to make the best use of the space, showing the different attributes of the house along the way but most of all making sure it’s pleasing to the eye. As I was starting with a blank canvas I spent hours searching for exactly the right pieces.”

The guest suite which spans the entire second floor has a light, nautical theme and Jane highlights a small seagull ornament which works perfectly to bring all the design elements together.

“It’s important to us that our show homes look like a home, with pieces collected over time and in this house we have ‘up-cycled’ a number of chairs including a Lloyd Loom bedroom chair which has been repainted and re-upholstered.”  Many of the other individual and quirky pieces were sourced from small, independent interiors shops in Brighton and elsewhere.

There are even some watercolours painted by Jane’s mother, which fit seamlessly into the overall design.  Equally, other pieces were sourced from the new John Lewis store which opened in Chichester earlier in the year.

Jane readily admits that the design is partly influenced by personal taste. “I was quite emotional when everything was finished as it has turned out exactly as I initially imagined and I’m so pleased with the result.’”

Visitors to Litten Place are clearly in agreement with two of the properties already sold and one reserved. While the show home itself has now been reserved, there are still two townhouses (£522,500) and one bungalow (£527,500) available.
